Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanika .
It’s an honor to speak with you today. Why don’t you give us some details about you and your story. How did you get to where you are today?
Yes, it is a pleasure to speak with you and thank you for your time.
My Name is Shanika, I am of Jamaican heritage. I was born and raised in London, United Kingdom. I started my travel lifestyle brand SHANIIKA.COM back in July 2020 during the Global pandemic. After losing my job as an office manager at a well-known High fashion couture brand, going through a break up and working a job I hated, I decided to invest in myself and start a travel lifestyle brand, as I love to travel and look good whilst exploring the world. I wanted to show young women my own sense of style and how they can look good and feel confident while traveling. My collection includes sustainable swimsuits, eco-friendly bamboo bags and a selective range of stylish eyewear. The essentials you need for your perfect holiday.
During my time building SHANIIKA.COM I have experienced some challenges and obstacles, however, as a business owner you ride that wave and solve the problems which allow you to grow as an individual and business, bringing forth the best version of yourself every time.
I’m sure your success has not come easily. What challenges have you had to overcome along the way?
Success is measured by our own perceptions, as one person’s success may be different to another. However, for me success is freedom and ensuring my customer receives quality suitable pieces.
As a business owner, I have had to overcome imposter syndrome, shipping, stock and technical issues, with the back end of the business. These challenges are continuous, but you find ways to resolve these problems and improve your business for the better.
I believe real success is when my customers truly love the products we sell and travel the world feeling confident, attractive, and empowered as they embrace that step to invest in themselves and explore the world.
SHANIIKA.COM represents confidence, diversity, self-love, women empowerment and investment. My job is to continue to empower women to love themselves and feel confident in their bodies. It is important for the company or the influencer who want to partner or work with me to have the same values. I have found that it is not always about the money it is about what you stand for as an individual and your mission/purpose while we are still breathing.
What’s your best piece of advice for readers who desire to find success in their life?
I want everyone who reads this article to understand that we are all born with a purpose despite what your current situation may look like, you matter and the fact that you are still alive today means you have the ability to achieve the impossible. As everything with God is possible, just believe.
I started my business during a global pandemic, if I can start a business in uncertain times what makes you think you can’t. Go after your dreams and don’t stop until you reach the moon. Trust me there are people you don’t know who are rooting for you, so do not worry about the people you do know that won’t support you.
Speaking of success, what does the word mean to you?
One word, Freedom. If I was to break down what freedom means to me, it is to live a life doing what I love and provide quality pieces to my customers. I have always known I wanted to work for myself, and build a solid foundation on what I love and how I can change my world and influence others to-do the same.
What’s next for you?
I have always had a passion for fashion and my next step is to grow my collection to represent all women and to open SHANIIKA.COM stores around the world. I want to expand my E-commence store to a physical store.
